HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL OF PHARMACY OF MONGOLIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES

By the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the People's Republic of Mongolia, on the 16th of August 1961, decision No. 431, the Faculty of Hygiene of the National University of Medical Sciences was established to organize the Higher School of Pharmacy, and by the order of the Ministry of Health, on the 13th of September 1961, decision No. 20, the Department of Medical Technology was established, marking the beginning of the history of the School of Pharmacy at the National University of Mongolia. This historical event laid the foundation for the development of Pharmaceutical sciences in Mongolia, and eminent pharmaceutical professionals emerged to contribute to the country's health sector.

The Department of Medical Technology became the Faculty of Hygiene of the National University of Medical Sciences in 1975 and later expanded to become the Faculty of Pharmacy of the National University of Medical Sciences in 1996.

By the decree A/01 of the Management Council of the National University of Medical Sciences on January 1, 2003, the School of Pharmacy was established with three departments: Medical chemistry and Botany, Pharmaceutical management and Administration, Pharmaceutical Technology and pharmacology.

In 2014, according to the decision No. 005 of February 21 of the Management Council of the National University of Medical Sciences and decision A/134 of April 9 of the Ministry of Health of Mongolia, the MNUMS was restructured to become a leading school, with five faculties and 34 departments. As a result of this restructuring, the School of Pharmacy and Bio-medicine was established.

In 2017, according to the decision of the Management Council of the National University of Medical Sciences on June 21 and decision A/94 of June 28 of the Ministry of Health of Mongolia, the School of Pharmacy underwent further institutional reforms.

Professor S. Khandsuren, a renowned pharmaceutical expert, initiated the establishment of the School of Pharmacy and served as its leader for 30 years, making significant contributions to the development of pharmaceutical education and research in Mongolia. Many distinguished scholars and educators have worked in the School of Pharmacy, including J.M. Kolesnichenko, V.I. Nazarov, V.G. Nazarova, V.A. Bunakov, V.V. Petrenko, V.F. Okhotnikova, G.V. Alfimova, I.V. Evgrashin, A.M. Martynov, and others, who have contributed greatly to the advancement of pharmaceutical education and research in Mongolia.
